The Travelwest Travel to Work Survey

The Travel to Work Survey is the largest commuting survey in the UK and is commuters’ chance to give their opinions about how they travel to work.
Taking place 11th – 17th March, the survey is open to individuals in the West of England who travel to work. It takes 5 minutes to complete online, and entrants have the chance to win prizes including a hot air balloon ride, shopping vouchers and a Fitbit.
The survey includes questions about modes of travel, the distances of journeys and how satisfied commuters are. There is the opportunity for every respondent to detail how they feel about transport in the West of England in their own words.
The findings of the survey are used for planning future housing and transport needs.
To complete the survey, go to www.travelwest.info/survey

Improvements to A368

The parish council have been made aware of North Somerset Council’s £450,000 scheme to improve the A368 (Bath Road) which will start on Monday 25 March.

The extensive works will take place from the A38 Churchill traffic lights towards Blagdon and between Blagdon and the North Somerset border, and are part of North Somerset Council’s ongoing commitment to improving the area’s roads.

To minimise disruption and allow crews to work safely while they complete multiple activities at the same time, sections of the road will be closed in phases:

  • Phase 1 – A38 Churchill traffic lights to B3134 Burrington Combe
  • Phase 2 – B3134 Burrington Combe to The Batch, Rickford
  • Phase 3 – Sladacre Lane, Blagdon to the North Somerset boundary
  • Phase 4 – surfacing at the A368 junction with B3134 Burrington Combe

All other sections of the road not being worked on during a phase will remain open. Please note work will not be taking place between The Batch, Rickford and Sladacre Lane, Blagdon.

Residential and access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the road closures – please speak to traffic marshals or council staff who will be onsite throughout the works and can advise on access arrangements.

The scheme is due to take six weeks to complete and work is set to be carried out between 8am and 5pm, six days a week. The road closure will remain in place for each phase 24 hours a day to protect ongoing work.

Works will include patching and resurfacing areas of the existing road surface, improving and cleaning drainage, replacing and relaying the kerbs, road marking and signing improvements, clearing overgrown vegetation and replacing and repairing damaged ironworks.

North Somerset Council appreciates that this scheme will be disruptive for local residents and businesses, so will be carrying out these extensive works in phases to minimise disruption.

Letters with more details will be delivered to nearby residents over the next few weeks.

Draft Joint Local Transport Plan Consultation

The parish council have been made aware that the Draft Joint Local Transport Plan 4 (JLTP4) covering the period to 2036 is currently out for consultation with an end date of 20 March.

The West of England Combined Authority is encouraging as many people as possible to contribute.  There is an “Easy to Read booklet and questions”,  an ideas survey for people to complete, a Summary Document, an Environmental Assessment and a vast amount of paper covering the draft plans in detail with all the supporting data.
Rather than just the PC commenting the Council is keen for residents to be aware of the consultation so as many as possible may make their views known directly.
The final JLTP version will be published later in 2019.

Opportunity to try out for free the new bus service connecting Churchill and Langford with Bristol

The parish council have been made aware of the newly improved bus service connecting Churchill and Langford with Bristol, and the opportunity for local people to try it out free of charge.

Launched in September 2018, the Unibus U2 bus travels between the University of Bristol’s Langford campus and Queens Road, Clifton. The service runs hourly on weekdays from around 8am until 6pm, providing an ideal public transport option for people heading into Bristol for work, shopping or leisure.

Following a successful first three months of operation and the introduction of an improved timetable in January, the U2 is being promoted to the communities of Churchill, Langford and Redhill with the offer of a free travel week from Monday 18 to Friday 22 February 2019.

The U2 is a public bus service operated on behalf of the University by First West of England using a fleet of modern, low-emission double decker vehicles with free wi-fi and USB charging points.

The service is part of First’s West of England network meaning customers can take advantage of the fare offers and ticket options available on all First buses across the region. Full timetable and fare information is available on the Bristol Unibus pages of First’s website.

But please note that during the free travel week, there’s no need for a ticket – customers can just hop aboard and enjoy the ride.

In advance of the free travel week, the University will be promoting the U2 service across the communities of Langford, Churchill and Redhill with a poster campaign and mailshot to local homes and businesses. An electronic version of the poster is attached to this email for your use on your website.
